Introduction to the Divorce Makeover Course™

Like many good ideas, the creation and development of this course were the result of confusion, frustration, and curiosity through my own experience in a high conflict divorce. Managing the divorce process presents unique challenges to both parties, especially if there is high conflict, a lack of strategy, and no roadmap. Such a process can lead to financial ruin, stress, anger, and even extreme confusion.

As many people these days are busy working, raising children, and contending with household responsibilities, the added burden of undergoing an unforeseen divorce can take its toll, both physically and emotionally. During my experience, I came to realize that the true goal of getting through a divorce was navigating it as gracefully as possible while causing the least damage to everyone involved, especially my children.

My ex-spouse and I were bombarded with legal paperwork and bills, then had to learn to work closely with court officials, determine (and then divide) assets and liabilities, resolve custody issues, build a new relationship with each other, and start a new life.

During the divorce, I didn’t have the tools I needed, even though I had a lawyer. I lacked a step-by-step strategy to manage a high conflict divorce, my grief, and co-parenting my children. Like most people, I wanted to get through the process as quickly as possible. I came to realize that our divorce lawyers were unfamiliar with personality disorders and high conflict situations, thus drawing out the process in an unhealthy way.

I naively believedthat someone could solve my divorce issues in a timely manner, but soon realized that no one could. Finally, I met a mediator and a high conflict trainer who taught me that I was the only person who could effectively navigate my divorce. By implementing self-management skills, I was able to create a solid plan that included a process and a consistent routine.

Now, I am sharing my personal experiences and with the concepts, skills, and tips I learned from high conflict training and other self-help sources. By regaining a sense of balance through my divorce process, I was inspired to create a program that will provide others with support and a clear strategy to maneuver through a difficult divorce.
